Presidential Decree No. 491, known as the Nutrition Act of the Philippines, designates July as Nutrition Month. This year, 2024, the National Nutrition Council (NNC) has centered the campaign around the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN). The PPAN focuses on enhancing nutrition at every stage of life through various strategies, with the theme “Sa PPAN: Sama-sama sa Nutrisyong Sapat para sa Lahat!” (In the PPAN: Together for Adequate Nutrition for All!) Metro Antipolo Hospital and Medical Center supported this initiative on July 29, 2024, MAHMCI spearheaded a Nutrition Month celebration that highlighted maternal, pediatric, and adult nutrition. Speakers, Ms. Mary Beatrix G. Diestro and Mrs. Tessa Bernadette B. Montero, provided valuable insights. Mrs. Montero discussed the critical importance of maternal nutrition for child development and emphasized the integration of nutrition care processes in hospitals, as outlined by DOH-Administrative Order No. 2019-033. Ms. Diestro's lecture covered practical eating habits, the pros and cons of various fad diets, and the importance of combining healthy eating with regular exercise. Attendees left the event enriched with knowledge and awareness, complemented by freebies from sponsors and raffle prizes. This event underscores the importance of engaging in efforts to promote healthier lifestyles, support nutrition security, and advocate for the well-being of all Filipinos, affirming that nutrition is a fundamental right, not a privilege.
